ANTISTATIC FIBC
When FIBCs are filled and discharged, the movement of finely powdered materials can lead to a buildup of static electricity. Preventing or eliminating this electrical charge is crucial in the packaging of flammable and combustible materials or in environments where combustible dust is present. Six Star offers specially designed antistatic bulk bags that, when used correctly, can prevent potential explosion hazards.
Types of Antistatic FIBCs
Type A FIBCs
Type A FIBCs are constructed from plain-woven polypropylene and other non-conductive fabrics. Static electricity can build up as products move or rub against the interior surface during filling and emptying. Type A bags do not offer any protection against static electricity.
Safe use for Type A bulk bags:
-
Transporting non-flammable products.
-
Environments without flammable solvents or gases.
Do not use Type A bulk bags for:
-
Transporting flammable products.
-
Environments with flammable solvents or gases.
-
Areas with a flammable atmosphere having a minimum ignition energy ≤1,000mJ.
Type B FIBCs
Type B FIBCs are similar to Type A in that they are made from plain-woven polypropylene or other non-conductive materials. However, Type B bags have a low breakdown voltage to prevent dangerous propagating brush discharges. They do not dissipate static electricity.
Safe use for Type B bulk bags:
-
Transporting dry, flammable powders.
-
Environments with dust having ignition energies less than 3mJ.
-
Areas without flammable solvents or gases.
Do not use Type B bulk bags for:
-
Environments with flammable solvents or gases.
Type C FIBCs
Type C FIBCs, also known as conductive or groundable FIBCs, are made from non-conductive polypropylene fabrics interwoven with conductive threads in a grid pattern. These threads must be electrically interconnected and connected to a designated ground during filling and discharging to ensure safety.
Safe use for Type C bulk bags:
-
Transporting flammable powders.
-
Environments with flammable vapors, gases, or combustible dusts.
Do not use Type C bulk bags for:
-
If the ground connection is not present or is damaged.
-
If there is resistance from any location of the FIBC to the grounding point.
Type D FIBCs
Type D FIBCs are made from antistatic and static dissipative fabrics designed to safely prevent incendiary sparks, brush discharges, and propagating brush discharges without needing a ground connection. These bags use quasi-conductive yarns to safely dissipate static electricity through low-energy corona discharge.
Safe use for Type D bulk bags:
-
Transporting flammable powders.
-
Environments with flammable vapors, gases, or combustible dusts.
Do not use Type D bulk bags for:
-
If the surface of the FIBC is contaminated or coated with conductive materials such as grease or other flammable substances.
